Why Belgian Space week? 

On 24 March 2022, it will have been 30 years since the first Belgian went into space. It was on this date that astro­naut Dirk Frimout left for space in the American shut­tle Atlantis. The year 2022 also marks the 20^th anniver­sary of Frank De Winne​’s first space flight.

These anniver­saries should not pass unno­ticed, which is why we are organ­is­ing Belgian Space week. An event that puts space trav­el in the spot­light. With the three­fold objec­tive: to raise aware­ness and inter­est, and to high­light the impor­tant Belgian con­tri­bu­tions to space indus­try and research.

This week would have tak­en place in March, but the cur­rent coro­na cri­sis has forced us to split our activ­i­ties into two weeks (two par­ties!). Part of the pro­gramme will remain in March (from the 21^th until the 26^th) and part will be moved to October (from the 17^th until the 21^th).

In March, our Belgian astro­nauts (Dirk Frimout and Frank De Winne) will be present for numer­ous events such as the weten­schaps­bat­tle, the semi-final of CanSat and the Space Days. In October, the co-trav­ellers of the mis­sions of our Belgian astro­nauts will come to Belgium to take part in the events.

With its diverse pro­gram, the event is aimed at uni­ver­si­ty stu­dents, chil­dren and young peo­ple, but also at the gen­er­al pub­lic. You can find all events under pro­gram.
