Ladies@Space

💡”Reach for the stars!”. A message for all girls and young women to encourage them to take up studies in STEM fields and let them know a career in the space sector is waiting for them. But also a message for the space industry to let them know these motivated young women might just be the stars their space companies are waiting for. Because the space sector needs Ladies@Space!
📜 The goal of the Ladies@Space event was to encourage girls from the 3rd grade of secondary school to take up a career in the space sector. For this, 15 top women from the Flemish space sector came to present their profession, followed by a speed-dating session where the girls could ask the female professionals all their questions. The Ladies@Space event was part of the broader 2‑day Space Days event that aimed to make the new impulse program “Flemish Space Economy” of Minister Hilde Crevits known to the general public and highlight the multitude of opportunities for and through space for the economy, entrepreneurship, science, technology, education, outreach and citizen science.
👩 Several female researchers and experts contributed to the project. The event was set up by astronomer Prof. Conny Aerts (KU Leuven) who works on numerous European space missions.
